How to calculate the energy cost of lights?
1.       Wattage:
A typical 400W High Pressure Sodium fixture uses 458 Watts
A typical 400W HPS replacement LED lamp uses 150 Watts
2.       Existing fixture quantity
In this project, customer use total 20 400W HPS lighting fixtures in his facility. Simply point-to-point replacement for existing lighting fixture.
400W HPS = 20 EA
150W LED = 20 EA
3.       Total Power consumption
HPS: 458 Watts x 20 fixtures = 9160 Watts
LED: 150 Watts x 20 fixtures = 3000 Watts
4.       Kilowatts
Watts divide by 1000 to get kilowatts
HPS: 9160 Watts ÷ 1000 = 9.16 Kilowatts
LED: 3000 Watts ÷ 1000 = 3 Kilowatts
5.       Operating hours per year.
In this project, our customer run 10 hours per day, and around 2500 hours per year.
6.       Total Kwh per year
Simply use Kilowatt-hours multiply operation hours:
HPS: 9.16 Kilowatts x 2500 hours = 22900 Kwh per year
LED: 3 Kilowatts x 2500 hours = 7500 Kwh per year
7.       Operation cost per year
HPS : 22900 Kwh x $0.1 = $2290
LED : 7500 Kwh x $0.1 = $750
8.       Total LED savings per year
$2290 - $750 = $1540 (Total LED savings monthly: US$128.33)
9.       Month to reach return on investment:
LED cost multiply LED quantity divide by monthly LED monthly savings, for example: LED high bay cost plus shipping cost and Tax, US$120 per fixture
U$120 X 20 Fixtures ÷ $128.33 = 18.75 Months
10.   Total LED Saving Percentage:
(458 Watts – 150 Watts) ÷458 Watts x 100%= 67%
Cut your Annual energy by 67% with LED high bay lights.
The return on investment is quite quickly, usually under 19months, less than 2 year. TEK LED high bay light provide 5 year full performance warranty, it is very cheap to maintain and run. LED lifespan consider to 54000 hours.
