Exports LED high bay lights must pay attention to Saudi Arabia SASO energy efficiency new regulations

A group of export LED high bay light have been rejected for failing to comply with SASO's new energy efficiency rules.

Learned, on February 10, 2016, Saudi standard measuring the quality organization (SASO) and the energy efficiency center issued a "SASO 2870/2015: energy efficiency, function and label requirements of lighting products " lighting products technical regulations, provisions in the standard LED high bay light lighting products exported to Saudi Arabia must meet the certification requirements of energy consumption.

The SASO2870/2015 specified in energy efficiency, function, label, and energy efficiency label of lighting products, standards of light source product safety, electromagnetic compatibility and toxic harmful substances also made the request.


The range of products within this standard ranges from three different stages to Implement new energy efficiency requirements. Starting from May 1, 2016, all kinds of directional and non-directional bulbs rated at 60W and above are included in the control range.

Light source products manufacturers or exporters need to confirm your products meet the requirements of the SASO2870 registered in Saudi standards at the same time, apply for certificates of energy efficiency, and on the LED high bay light corresponds to the level of energy efficiency labeling.All LED products within the standard range will be checked and registered with the registration certificate when arriving in Saudi customs.

All kinds of directional and non-directional light bulbs under the rated power of 60W shall be included in the control range from May 1, 2017.Such products need to be certified by SASO energy efficiency, or they will be banned from the country.This stage requires explicit directory product conformity certificate (COC) body within the scope of products to meet the requirements of energy efficiency labels, check for not meet the requirements of the relevant product refusal to issue Saudi COC certificate.

The third stage will be implemented from 1 January 2019.

According to the investigation, the reasons for the decline of LED high bay light were mainly because the export packaging did not meet the requirements of SASO for displaying the energy efficiency label.
