The effect of changing the LED street light in New York is surprising

According to the New York city department transportation that the city's 250, 000 street lights, nearly 72% have switched to brighter white LED street light from sodium-vapor bulbs formerly known for their orange glow .
New York's goal is to upgrade the remaining 28 percent by the end of 2018, but don’t include on the state-run highway. LED street light are longer than the old ones, but consume only half as much energy, saving millions of dollars, experts say the upgrades can increase security.
Harold Takooshian, a professor of psychology at fordham university said, "in the United States, there are some cities that leave work after 5pm. New York City isn't like that, it shouldn't be." In addition, he studies how street lights affect communities.
Overall crime has fallen by 8% over the past two years, according to the NYPD. Takooshian said that it is difficult to establish a direct correlation between lower crime rates and better lighting, but improved lighting makes people safer. New York has been looking for ways to light up the streets in an economically and efficient way.
When LED street lights were first installed in 2015, some residents complained that LED street lights were too bright to disturb their sleep.
