Chicago used LED street lamp to replace High pressure sodium lamp and that become a global trends

Recently, the Chicago officials confirmed that plans in the next four years, 85% street lamp replacement for the LED street light, this makes the Chicago became one of the largest city where use LED street lighting instead of traditional light .

This plan replaces 270,000 high pressure sodium lamps with more energy-efficient and durable LED street light.

The project is expected to cost $160 million from last year. However, it will also generate energy costs for the city council. LED street light manufacturers say that LED technology can reduce energy consumption by 60% to 80% and achieve investment returns in two years or less.

The plan also includes a smart grid that can be instructed when the lights are not working, so residents don’t need reporting failures. Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel said: "this is a win-win project, not only is one of the largest lighting modernization project, but also reduce residents call 311 (note: 311 is a public service center hotline)."

"According to the proposed project, we will provide modern, reliable and high-quality lighting that will improve the quality of life in every community in Chicago," he said.

Replacing street lights with LED street light is a global trend, and more and more cities around the world are switching to leds to cut costs and carbon emissions.
